Cardboard boxes by FEFCO style

Box makers name a corrugated construction by its FEFCO number. The first two digits give the family, the last two the style.

Flute and face

Corrugated board is two liners with a fluted sheet between them. The flute sets the thickness, and the face sets the color.

Choose Kraft, White outside or White both sides in the Material panel. The flutes on the cut edge stay kraft-colored on Kraft and White outside, and turn light on White both sides.

Cardboard box mockup FAQ

Short answers about board, styles and print.

How to print a design on a cardboard box?

Box makers print on the kraft or white face of the board. Here you place the artwork on the dieline, check it on kraft in 3D, then export the dieline as a PDF or SVG for the printer. Ask for a printed sample before the full run.

How to create box packaging design?

Choose the corrugated style first by its FEFCO number, then type the inside size so the dieline fits your product. Design on the flat dieline and keep text and logos away from the creases.

Is a cardboard box the same as a corrugated box?

In everyday use, yes: cardboard box, carton box and corrugated box usually mean board made of two liners with a fluted sheet between them. Every box on this page is corrugated.

Should I choose E-flute or B-flute?

E-flute is 1.5 mm with finer waves and gives smoother print, which suits mailers and pizza boxes. B-flute is 3 mm, for cartons that are stacked and shipped. Switch in the Material panel: the inside size stays the same and the outside size changes with the thickness.

Will my colors look different on kraft board?

Yes. Ink on kraft looks darker and warmer, and white areas in your artwork show the kraft board unless they are printed in white. Switch to White outside to compare, and keep in mind a screen cannot show exact ink.

What do the FEFCO numbers mean?

They are a code box makers use to name a construction: 02 for slotted cartons, 03 for telescope boxes, 04 for folders and trays, 05 for sleeves and slide boxes. Quote the number with the inside size and a supplier knows what to make.

Can I show the cardboard box open?

Yes. The fold slider moves between Flat, Open and Closed on the Shipping box, the mailers and the folders, and between Flat and Formed on the Open-top box, the trays and the sleeves. The Shoe, Telescope and Three piece boxes also stop at Lifted, so you can render the lid raised off the base.

Can I make a cardboard box mockup for free?

Browsing the boxes and turning them in 3D is free. Log in with an email code or Google to upload artwork, save projects and render images. Exporting a rendered image or a dieline needs a free account; rendering and downloads are free right now.
