Sizes are inside dimensions. The mockup shows the board color and your artwork; print color, coatings and foil are confirmed on a printed sample.
Wiki
The standard shipping box is the regular slotted container, or RSC: four walls glued into a tube, with four flaps at the top and four at the bottom. The outer flaps meet in the middle and are sealed with tape. In the FEFCO code it is style 0201.
The box arrives glued and folded flat, is squared up, and its bottom and top flaps are folded in and taped. Our model has 13 panels and 12 crease lines, and the Fold slider plays the same sequence: flat, open, closed.
Shipping boxes are ordered by inside size, length × width × height. This one starts at 305 × 254 × 203 mm (12 × 10 × 8 in); with B-flute board the outside is 311 × 260 × 215 mm and the flat sheet measures 1143 × 463 mm. Carriers charge by the outside dimensions. Stock cartons are mostly C-flute, about 4 mm thick; this editor offers E-flute and B-flute.
Most shipping boxes are printed in one or two colors directly on kraft board: a logo on two or four sides, handling marks and a tape line. Full-color printing needs a white outer face.
Start from a carton size that is sold off the shelf, or type the inside size your product needs.
| Size | Inside, in millimetres | What it suits |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × 6 × 6 in | 152 × 152 × 152 mm | Mugs, candles, small parts |
| 11 × 8.5 × 5.5 in | 279 × 216 × 140 mm | The inside of a USPS medium flat rate box |
| 12 × 10 × 8 in | 305 × 254 × 203 mm | The size this mockup starts at. One of the best-selling stock cartons |
| 17 × 14 × 12 in | 432 × 356 × 305 mm | Bulk and wholesale packs |
Sizes are inside dimensions. A stock C-flute carton of 12 × 10 × 8 in measures about 12 3/8 × 10 3/8 × 8 5/8 in outside. Carriers charge by the outside dimensions, which the editor shows for the board you choose.
The plain brown carton is often the first thing a customer touches.

Put the shipping carton next to the mailer, the tape and the label.

Answer an inquiry with a picture and a dieline instead of a blank quote.

Type the inside length, width and height. The editor accepts 150–600 × 100–400 × 50–600 mm and shows the outside dimensions, the ones a carrier measures. Width can be up to the length.

Click Upload artwork and drop your logo on the flat sheet. The four walls sit side by side, with the top and bottom flaps above and below them.

Drag the Fold slider: the glued tube opens, the bottom flaps close, then the top flaps. Stop at Open to see inside the box.

Render a JPG or PNG up to 4K. Export the dieline as a PDF or SVG at full size, with cut lines, crease lines and your artwork, and send it to your box maker. Ask them to check it against their own board and machines and to make a sample before the full run: board thickness, tolerances and glue areas differ from one factory to the next.
Every box opens in the same live 3D editor.
Three kinds of file come out of the same project. The picture is for showing the box; the dieline is for making it.
| File | Format | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Image | JPG or PNG, 2K or 4K | Store pages, pitch decks, social posts |
| Cut-out | PNG with a transparent background | Your own layouts and product photos |
| Dieline | PDF or SVG at full size, 1143 × 463 mm at the starting size | Your printer or box maker: cut lines, crease lines and your artwork in place |
The dieline is drawn from the size and board you set. It is a starting file for your printer, who will check it against their own board, machines and glue areas and make a sample before a full run.
Short answers about sizes, materials and files.
There are hundreds. A 12 × 10 × 8 in carton is one of the best-selling stock sizes; 6 × 6 × 6 in cubes and cartons up to 17 × 14 × 12 in are also sold off the shelf. This mockup starts at 12 × 10 × 8 in and takes any inside size within 150–600 × 100–400 × 50–600 mm. Width can be up to the length.
Boxes are sold by inside dimensions, length × width × height. The editor shows the outside dimensions as well, because that is what carriers measure.
Set the size, click Upload artwork and place your design on the dieline, then render the image. It runs in your browser.
Yes. Choose White outside or White both sides in the Material panel. Kraft is what the box starts with.
Use a shipping box for heavy or bulky goods and for anything sent in an outer carton. Use a mailer box when the box itself is the presentation: it opens like a lid and needs no tape.
Yes. Export it as a PDF or SVG at full size, with cut and crease lines and your artwork. Ask them to check it against their own board and machines and to make a sample before the full run: board thickness, tolerances and glue areas differ from one factory to the next.
No. The box is a 3D model that opens in your browser, and you export finished JPG or PNG images and the dieline. There's no PSD file to edit.
Browsing the boxes and turning them in 3D is free. Log in with an email code or Google to upload artwork, save projects and render images. Exporting a rendered image or a dieline needs a free account; rendering and downloads are free right now.
