Wiki
Tea bags are packed in a folding carton of paperboard, wider than it is tall, with a tuck flap at each end. The carton is glued along one seam, shipped flat and squared up on the packing line. In packaging terms it is a tuck end carton.
The four walls are one strip of paperboard glued along a seam, so the carton is delivered flat and springs into a tube. Each end has a closure panel with a tuck flap and two small dust flaps. On this carton the top and bottom closures tuck in opposite directions. Our model has 13 panels and 12 crease lines.
A tea box is sized to the bags standing in a row inside it. This one starts at 130 × 80 × 70 mm (5.1 × 3.1 × 2.76 in); at that size the flat sheet measures 428 × 256 mm. The board is folding boxboard about 0.3 to 0.5 mm thick, white or kraft.
Tea cartons are printed in full color, front and back alike, since either face may end up toward the shopper. Kraft board is common for herbal and organic teas; colors print darker on it than on white.
The size follows the number of bags and whether each bag has its own envelope.
| Contents | Size, in millimetres | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 20 tea bags | 130 × 80 × 70 mm | The size this mockup starts at. Boxes of 20 from three large brands measure 129–137 × 79–84 × 69–74 mm outside |
| 50 tea bags | about 150 × 140 × 85 mm | Outside of a retail carton: wider and deeper |
Retail sizes are outside dimensions as listed by a retailer, shown to give the scale. The size depends on the bag, its envelope and how the bags are stacked.
Small tea brands often design the carton themselves.

Show a whole range by swapping the artwork on one carton.

Present a tea range with cartons that really fold.

Count the bags, measure a row of them and type the inside length, width and height. The editor accepts 30–250 × 20–150 × 50–350 mm. Width can be up to the length.

Click Upload artwork and drop your design on the flat sheet. The front, the back and the two sides sit side by side between the crease lines.

Drag the Fold slider to close the carton, then turn it to check the front, the back and the ends.

Render a JPG or PNG up to 4K for your shop or a buyer. Export the dieline as a PDF or SVG at full size and send it to your carton printer. Ask them to check it against their own board and machines and to make a sample before the full run: board thickness, tolerances and glue areas differ from one factory to the next.
Every box opens in the same live 3D editor.
Three kinds of file come out of the same project. The picture is for showing the box; the dieline is for making it.
| File | Format | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Image | JPG or PNG, 2K or 4K | Store pages, pitch decks, social posts |
| Cut-out | PNG with a transparent background | Your own layouts and product photos |
| Dieline | PDF or SVG at full size, 428 × 256 mm at the starting size | Your printer or box maker: cut lines, crease lines and your artwork in place |
The dieline is drawn from the size and board you set. It is a starting file for your printer, who will check it against their own board, machines and glue areas and make a sample before a full run.
Short answers about sizes, materials and files.
A box that tea bags are sold in is a tea carton or tea box: a folding carton with a tuck flap at each end. A box for storing or serving tea at home is a tea chest or tea caddy, which is a different thing.
Start from the 20-bag or the 50-bag size or type your own, click Upload artwork and place your design on the dieline, then render the image. It runs in your browser.
