Samsung The Frame TV

The Frame is Samsung's lifestyle TV that shows artwork in Art Mode when it is not being watched; it was teased at CES 2017, detailed at a launch event in Paris on March 14, 2017, and rolled out to its first markets from June 2017.[1][2] The line is defined by Art Mode, a picture-frame look with customizable bezels, and a wall mount that hangs the screen close to the wall.[1][3]

Display

The first lineup had 55-inch and 65-inch models; a later lineup on Samsung's US site lists The Frame at 32, 43, 50, 55 and 65 inches and The Frame Pro at 65, 75 and 85 inches.[2][3] Samsung states that the 43-inch to 85-inch models are 4K UHD, 3840 x 2160 pixels, and that the 32-inch model is FHD.[3] For full-screen art, work at 3840 × 2160 pixels, the 16:9 size Samsung recommends for images on 43-inch and larger models.[4] On the same US page, The Frame is QLED based and The Frame Pro is Neo QLED based.[3]

Bezels and design

The Frame is sold with a black bezel.[5] Customizable bezels are sold separately; the four pieces are magnetic and slide onto the TV, and Samsung's US support page lists them in beige, black, brown and white.[3][5] A bezel has to match the TV's model year and size, and the letter after LS03 in the model code gives the year.[5] Samsung worked with designer Yves Behar on the original, which was offered with frame options including Walnut, Oak and White.[1][2]

Art Mode and mounting

In Art Mode, the screen shows curated artworks or the owner's photos instead of fading to black.[1][3] A motion sensor activates the screen when someone is nearby, and a brightness sensor adjusts the image to the ambient light.[3] The Frame comes with the Slim-Fit Wall Mount, which lets it hang nearly flush against the wall; the 2017 original used what Samsung called the No Gap Wall-mount and the Invisible Connection cable.[1][3]
