iPad Pro 12.9-inch M1 is the fifth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, announced on April 20, 2021 and released on May 21.[1][2][3] It brought the M1 chip and Thunderbolt to iPad Pro, and this 12.9-inch size introduced the Liquid Retina XDR display with a mini-LED backlight.[1]
Display
The Liquid Retina XDR display measures 12.9 inches on the diagonal, with 2732 × 2048 pixels at 264 ppi and ProMotion.[2] Brightness is 600 nits for SDR content and, for HDR content, 1000 nits full screen with a 1600-nit peak.[2] The display has rounded corners and sits inside a black front bezel.[2][4] For full-screen art, work at 2048 × 2732 pixels in portrait; landscape is the same file turned.[2]
Design and finishes
Apple made it in Silver and Space Gray.[1][2] The Wi-Fi model measures 280.6 × 214.9 × 6.4 mm and weighs 682 grams, and the Wi-Fi + Cellular model weighs 685 grams.[2] The enclosure is made with 100 percent recycled aluminum.[1]
M1, Thunderbolt and cameras
The Apple M1 chip has an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU.[2] The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt and USB 4 at up to 40Gb/s, and the connectors also include a Smart Connector.[1][2] The back carries Wide and Ultra Wide cameras with a LiDAR Scanner, and the front TrueDepth camera is a 12MP Ultra Wide camera that enables Center Stage and Face ID.[1][2][4]
