Wiki
MacBook Pro 16-inch M1
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) is Apple's 16-inch pro notebook, announced on October 18, 2021 and released on October 26; it came only with the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip, not the M1.[1][2] It introduced a Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion, MagSafe 3 charging and physical function keys in place of the Touch Bar.[1]
Display
The Liquid Retina XDR display measures 16.2 inches on the diagonal, with a native resolution of 3456 × 2234 pixels at 254 pixels per inch and ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz.[2] The display extends up around the camera, which sits in a camera housing built into the top of the screen, and the top corners are rounded.[1][3][2] For full-screen art, work at 3456 × 2234 pixels in landscape and keep important content clear of the camera housing at the top, which hides part of the image.[2][3] MacBook Pro 16-inch M3 has the same size and resolution, so a single screen file covers both.[4]
M1 Pro and M1 Max
Apple sold this model with one of two chips: M1 Pro, with a 10-core CPU and a 16-core GPU, or M1 Max, with a 10-core CPU and a 24-core or 32-core GPU.[2][1] Both chips were introduced with this notebook, and Apple called them the first pro chips designed for the Mac.[1] The M1 chip stayed in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which remained in the lineup beside the 14- and 16-inch models.[1]
Keyboard, ports and finishes
The Magic Keyboard is set in a black well and has 12 full-height function keys; physical function keys replace the Touch Bar.[1][2] It has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack and a MagSafe 3 port.[1][2] Apple sold it in Silver and Space Gray, in an aluminum enclosure 35.57 cm wide, 24.81 cm deep and 1.68 cm tall.[5][1][2]
