iPhone 12
iPhone 12 was announced on October 13, 2020, alongside iPhone 12 mini, and went on sale on October 23.[1] It brought a flat-edge aluminum design and a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display behind a Ceramic Shield front.[1][2]
Display
The OLED display is 2532 × 1170 pixels at 460 ppi.[2] Held upright, a full-screen design is 1170 × 2532 pixels, and the notch at the top houses the TrueDepth camera used for Face ID.[2] iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 14 have the same size and resolution, so one set of screens fits all three.[4][5]
Design and colors
Apple lists six finishes: Purple, Blue, Green, (PRODUCT)RED, White and Black.[2] Purple was not among the five colors at launch.[1] The back is glass, the front is Ceramic Shield, and a flat-edged anodized aluminum band runs around the frame, which gives the phone its squared-off sides.[2][3]
What was new
iPhone 12 introduced MagSafe, an array of magnets around the wireless charging coil that lets chargers attach and cases snap onto the back.[1] Two 12MP cameras, Wide and Ultra Wide, sit on the back beside a Dual-LED True Tone flash.[3] The side button is on the right, and the SIM tray is on the left.[3]
